Remember Sarah on Party of Five? Jennifer Love Hewitt’s still here at 46

“There are people that blow up and are hugely famous. And then there are those little warriors from the ’90s who just keep going.” Jennifer Love Hewitt said in a July 2025 interview that she fits into the second category with regard to her career. “We’re steady little racehorses, and you can’t get rid of us,” she added.

That strength has become a part of the public narrative of Hewitt, particularly as she nears thirty years since she took the role of Sarah Reeves on Fox in Party of Five. The show lasted a total of six seasons until its conclusion in 2000, and participants of the show continue to refer to it as family time; at an April 2025 panel, Lacey Chabert shared one memorably specific detail: we all just all burst into tears when the last take was complete.

The life of Hewitt after parting with Party of Five was a rush. Her commercials childhood and on-screen ease (which appeared natural) led after preliminary effort to the transition of TV recognition to screen presence with 1997s I Know What You Did Last Summer, and a wave of teenage films and a series of pop records. Her personal change was her 2002 album Bare Naked by which she wrote the majority of the songs on her own, and she made music the zone where she could no longer perform in front of anyone: “When I’m singing, I just get to be me,” she told UPI.

This pressure, however, did not remain on the work. Hewitt has explained how as a teenage girl interviews would be way off track and into acting and questions no young person should have been answering on national television. In a Tonight Show appearance at age 16, Jay Leno inquired about her dating life and subsequently seemed baffled upon hearing her confirm her age, a situation that later became the hallmark of her life as she viewed it as a good example of an industry that failed to safeguard the young females. She added that the crowd around her body was so deafening: “It was just ‘boob, boob, boob’ everywhere.”

Hewitt did not retreat but continued to create a TV career with long-lasting trend cycles. Ghost Whisperer was a five season show that won her a Saturn Award in 2007. She would later go on to successfully appear on procedurals and character-based dramas and in 2018 she appeared on ABC in the role of dispatcher Maddie Han in the series 9-1-1, which once again accorded her a stable working life. “This is the longest-running show I’ve ever been on,” she said of a Zoom conversation about the longevity of her career, was that she would have 37 years in the business by February.

She also decided to take a break in between to lead a family life. In 2013, hewitt and actor Brian Hallisay had daughter Autumn, son Atticus in 2015 and son Aidan in 2021. Once she was back in a larger public visibility, her private self was increasingly surrounded by a clear line; in 2018, she said that she had to be a person.

This limit was once more pushed to its limit when she made an infrequent major red carpet appearance on July 14, 2025, in Los Angeles when her I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel premiered. The nighttime photos revealed a new appearance: a ginger hair, not a brunette, image that many viewers had always linked with the original, and the old preoccupation with her looks on the Internet came back. Months before that, she had mentioned that directly in an interview on aging in the spotlight, she said, Whatever it is, you just want to have the ability to be whoever you are at that age. She made the same point on her 46 th birthday, when she made a simple post with no make up and no filter.

Her best full-circle scenes are not camera-oriented. Hewitt has expressed a nostalgic feeling about the experience of working with Betty White on 2011 The Lost Valentine, and has attributed it to her experience of watching The Golden Girls with her grandmother when she was a child. This is my grand, she said to herself when she heard that White was to be her costar, and then said, She was everything I wanted her to be and more than a million.

Even today, Hewitt still refers to her career as a relationship and craft, rather than flash-based. In early 2026, she mentioned one potential guest of House Arrest on 9-1-1 would be Jamie Lee Curtis. My dream would be Jamie Lee Curtis, she said connecting it to the fact that they had been together in the same film in 1996 and the kind of long memory that the little warriors in the group seemed to possess.
