To most millennials, Carradine played Sam McGuire on the Disney Channel TV show “Lizzie McGuire,” the somewhat disorganized, loving father who provided the stable of the show. To film lovers, he played Lewis Skolnick in the film “Revenge of the Nerds,” which made the movie a long time reference. In both, the attractiveness was close: he acted as men who were friendly, somewhat misplaced, and dedicated to the people that surrounded them.

His brother, Keir Carradine, an actor, mentioned that he died following a period of close to 20 years of fighting bipolar disorder and that he died by suicide. In a statement, Keith Carradine said, “We are bereft at the loss of this beautiful soul and want to acknowledge Bobby’s valiant struggle against his nearly two-decade battle with bipolar disorder,” adding, “We hope his journey can shine a light and encourage addressing the stigma that attaches to mental illness.”

Some of his colleagues who had worked with him talked about what he came to set afterward after his demise. Hilary Duff, the Lizzie, wrote on Instagram: It hurts. It is quite difficult to confront this fact concerning an old friend and said, there was so much warmth in the McGuire family and I always felt so well taken care of by my on-screen parents. I shall be eternally thankful about that. I feel so sorry to hear that Bobby was in pain. I feel badly about him, his family, and all those that loved him. Another Lizzie McGuire cast Jake Thomas also added that it broke his heart today. I happened to know Bobby throughout my life. And he was a cool guy to meet at all times.

The death of Carradine was verified by his daughter, Ever, and recalled the familiarity that so often takes a back seat in the stories about well-known individuals. “My sweet, funny dad, who’s only 20 years older than I am, who never missed an opportunity to drive me to the airport or tell me how much he loved my homemade salad dressing, is gone,” she wrote.

Carradine was born in Hollywood in 1954 and he grew up in a famous acting family and developed a career that continued to grow, despite the fact that the audience began associating him with one particular role. Having over 150 acting credits and primarily working across film and television, he appeared everywhere, in decades-old and genre-bending projects. In subsequent interviews, he frequently discussed the working of the working itself the manner in which sets work, how actors hit their rhythm, how improbable twists created a career trajectory without ever identifying one aspect as the sole chapter of interest.

He also came from a large, blended family of performers. Actor Martha Plimpton, his niece, wrote on Instagram: “My Uncle Bobby was the best one of all 8 brothers; blood, adopted, and step. Out of all of them, he was the absolute best. He was the one who cuddled me when I came to visit my father in LA for the first time at 8 or 9 years old.”

Following his demise, the social image of Comic, warm, familiar Carradine has come into conflict with the privateness of granting a serious mood disorder. This particular disorder is characterized by unnatural behavioral changes in mood, energy and activity levels, and it is a disorder that plagues millions of people in the U.S. To many fans, the most persistent memory perhaps was the consistent manner in which he portrayed a dad who was there imperfectly, reliably-episode after episode.
